Kia Ora Friends!!
WOW! A lot has happened with Adventurous Minds over the last year… Let us try to fill you in:
We are all very excited about our new website – www.adventurousmindsnz.com Check it out!! We have info on our upcoming holiday camps, downloadable registration forms, and some great photos!!! We offer various EOTC adventures for schools, teambuilding events for the workplace, and soon… guided tours throughout NZ!!
We welcome a new addition to the team, Matthew (MATT) Strange, whose passion and experience with the surf has injected a new dimension to our programme. We also have several Youth Leaders in training, who are being trained in leadership and risk management, with the intention of assisting on our holiday camps.
A new Hike & Surf programme has been introduced for our older holiday campers, with an emphasis on trip planning, navigation, survival and learning to surf. Successful Hike & Surf camps were run in September 2006 and January 2007, in the Kaimai-Mamaku and Coromandel Forest Parks. We have plans to vary our destinations and travel throughout New Zealand with both of our holiday camp programmes. We will keep you updated!!!
We have been facilitating International Student Camps at various locations. The highlight was a week spent with 23 Korean students, visiting New Zealand through Mt Maunganui Intermediate School and LABO. We ran the camp at Lake Whakamaru with activities including abseiling, climbing, kayaking, air rifles, archery, go-karts, BMX, confidence course, flying fox and much more!!
Corporate Teambuilding with Adventurous Minds has taken off and been described as “New Zealand’s best kept secret to success”. Staff are set challenges to strengthen teamwork and communication through problem solving and fun outdoor activities.
October saw Adventurous Minds spending a rewarding three days with Tauranga Police and students involved in the DARE (to be you) programme. Trust, communication and teamwork were the basis of all outdoor activities and of course, much fun!!
We have been working alongside Environment BOP, DoC and Ngatuhoa Lodge Outdoor Education Society to establish a native plant nursery and re-vegetation scheme at Ngatuhoa Lodge. We look forward to all students and campers being actively involved in the enhancement of the Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park.
We look forward to seeing you adventuring in the outdoors again soon!
